  It would be easy to proclaim the Zombies “risen from the dead” in wake (yes, pun) of this new albums’ arrival; however, the main two Zombies here have produced a variety of  diverse records over the years, and believe me, or any fan who has seen them perform lately, this group is very much alive and well.

The two group heads of state, Rod Argent & Colin Blunstone are have put together the new Zombie configuration with suitable Frankenstein parts; namely former Argent bass player Jim Rodford, with his son Steve on drums, and noted session guitarist Keith Airey. A third original Zombie, Chris White also joins in on backing vocals to achieve the Zoms trademark harmonies on a few cuts.

Rhino has good reason to be excited about this first rate effort, as several cuts here will please long-time fans and surprise new comers as well. Earlier in the year the CD had been available at Zombie shows in the states, as well as in limited release in England, with the brilliant opener “In My Mind A Miracle” released as a single to BBC radio. However as not only a critic, but as a former AC radio programmer of ten years, it would seem to me the most obvious choice for the first single in the states would be the classy “Wings Against The Sun”. This cut with the right promotion could re-establish the Zombies as a contemporary music force  with a breathtaking sleeper hit in the'); document.writeln(' kind of vein the artist ‘Seal’ had a massive hit a few years back with “Kiss From A Rose”. The two songs are similar only in spirit and ambience though, as “Wings” has a brilliant melody all its own; gracefully, longingly sung by Blunstone, who American fans will also recognize as one of the frequent vocalists for the Alan Parsons project, most notably on one of their greatest songs “Old And Wise”. Ok; back to the new record.

Rod Argent has written some of his finest tunes here, as another strong contender for a single “I Want To Fly” will testify. An exquisite example of melody matching the melancholy lyric, “Fly” could do just that, right up the charts after “Wings”, should Clear Channel see fit. Other tracks of note include the Elton John-ish piano ballad “Memphis”; a sultry gentle McCartney-esque Pop pleaser “Together”; and the aforementioned med-tempo rocker “Miracle” which serves perfectly to re-connect fans with the classic Zombies sound of dark, quirky melody, unusual chord changes, driving Argent organ fills, and moving bass line. Notable too is a fine cover of Blunstones’ solo UK hit “I Don’t Believe In Miracles”; and the stand-still beauty of the spiritual title track.

I sometimes feel that I am a member of a select club - those who know that in Colin Blunstone we have one of the most distinctive voices in rock,and yet we are unable to convince the rest of the world of it. After a series of solo albums during the 1990s, Blunstone linked up with his former Zombies cohort Rod Argent in 2001 for Out of the Shadows. Now they have gone one better by reclaiming the Zombies name and getting a former band member Chris White to contribute backing vocals to three of the tracks.

So with two-thirds of the Zombiesand ex-Argent player Jim Rodford on bass,we have an impeccable Pedigree - and a sound to match.Argent has written most of the songs, which range from the uptempo Time to Move to the exquisite I Want To Fly. He also supplies the splendid keyboard work on tracks including the funky  Southside of the Street. But it\'s on the ballads that Blunstone sparkles, including the haunting Wings Against the Sun, the memorable Look For a Better Way and a re-cut of his hit I Don\'t Believe In Miracles.
